Description
I designed this course with the head of Independent Living Alternatives (ILA) as induction training for potential personal assistants to disabled people. It's an intensive 2-week online course, mixing self-study units, branching scenarios, and structured discussion activities — all hosted in Moodle. The course has now been delivered to thousands of learners in small cohorts of 20 or less.
It's a modest course, in terms of the schedule and resources, but is perhaps the one I've been most proud of over the years — it's always been highly evaluated, and has proven to be a very effective investment for the ILA.
My role
I worked with the client to scope and design an online course that would help them recruit suitable people to become personal assistants. The course is led by a facilitator and involves lots of social learning activities, but also needs to be largely self-paced. Most cohorts include learners from all over the world, in different time zones, and with different social, cultural and religious values which we needed to take into consideration when designing the activities.
I designed the course to be delivered via a customised installation of Moodle, with embedded SCORM units I developed with my own HTML/CSS/Ajax templates.
